DIY Nichos Workshop

Join @JazzysDesign at Cargo to create a handmade nicho, a traditional shadow box used in Mexican folk art. Use color and meaningful details to craft a piece that celebrates the life and memories of someone you love. This workshop is presented by IdealPDX as part of Cargo's October Day of the Dead programme. Spots are limited, so visit the link in the organiser's profile to sign up. No prior experience is needed.

Alebrijes! And Papermache

Session 1: October 12 | 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM
Follow along as Marilyn guides you through the steps of designing and constructing the structure of your alebrije! Use aluminum foil, craft wire, cardboard, and newspaper. You’re welcome to bring some of your own cardboard and newspaper from home to repurpose – or use the materials provided. Take your alebrije home with you to dry and return the following week to finish!
Session 2: October 19 | 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM
Finish your alebrije by ornamenting it with colored tissue paper and paint. Take your creation home to put on your ofrenda!

Did you hear? We’re painting a piano for Push. Piano. Play! Follow along here for updates as I add lots of color — bold, bright, and full of life. My design is inspired by love, diversity, and Portland itself, with touches of Mexican floral patterns honoring my roots.
🎶 Join us for the big event at Director Park, Portland, Oregon — a free, family-friendly celebration of music and art. After that, the piano will head to Montavilla for more community magic. Let’s bring color to the city together! 💛🎹
